As far as we can tell, the world is microscopically random yet macroscopically determined. The sculpture captures this sense of inevitable indeterminacy as the contents are remixed, stacked, harassed, and recolored. The figurines inside the ball contend with the simple input of the plunger and the forms of the other figurines touching them to produce a chaotic result. Like us, the obtuseness of their physical form provides a limit for their total intimacy.
As they are struck, their position and of light generated changes. Each wireless led is lit by its ability to inductively couple with the power supply in the base, thus each figure will be uniquely lit to its position in analog space. After ten seconds of activation, a unique stack is generated, each configuration is unique and yet given probabilistic positioning of the LEDS in space and and differing requirements across colors patterns emerge.
Currently the device is programmed to preform. The behavior can be modified by the usage of a momentary switch which allows behavior to occur only when a user engages it. The lights will remain on while the sound and remixing strike are charged only when a user holds the button down. Therefore, the participant will be able to remix the orb at their desire, but only after waiting the required ten seconds. This functionality exists between a lamp and a jack in the box.
Further development could take place through changes to the code to deploy sound through the transducers at musical frequencies, creating additional performances for the sculpture to cycle through depending on the mood of the environment, perhaps through a sensor reacting to ambient temperature or an audio data signal to control the pace and tone. A participant could interact with the sculpture via controls or it could be extended into space via a video feed of its contents.
